Businesswoman of the year calls attention to family-owned companies and manufacturing industry.
“Family-owned companies are a lot more important to employment opportunities and economic development in The Netherlands than people think and deserve more appreciation and customised support. The same applies to the manufacturing industry, where a great deal of technological renewal is realised”, states Marlies van Wijhe (44), general director of Van Wijhe Verf B.V., manufacturer of the paint brands Wijzonol Bouwverven and Ralston Colour & Coatings. She was recently crowned as Businesswoman of the Year 2010. The presentation took place at Wittenburg Castle in Wassenaar, where the award was presented by Mrs Gerdi Verbeet, chairman of the Lower House. Marlies van Wijhe sees the prestigious Prix Veuve Clicquot, the award’s other name, as a much deserved victory for family-owned companies, the manufacturing industry, sustainability and innovation – all causes which she has supported for many years. Van Wijhe feels that family businesses and the manufacturing industry in The Netherlands are often under-valued for their economic contribution. There are many fantastic companies in the manufacturing industry and they continuously contribute to innovation and investment in research and development.
